If you’re looking for the perfect doggy music playlist to keep your pup calm and relaxed, a new study has revealed that Reggae or Soft Rock is probably your best bet.
Researchers in Scotland, at the Scottish SPCA and the University of Glasgow, performed a study attempting to find out which types of music worked best to relax shelter dogs.
For the study, the researchers monitored the dogs’ heart and stress levels over a five-day period while they listened to five different genres of music, including Soft Rock, Motown, Pop, Reggae and Classical. The study revealed that the dogs were all “found to spend significantly more time lying and significantly less time standing when music was played, regardless of genre,” however, their stress levels reduced while listening to Reggae and Soft Rock.
“Overall, the response to different genres was mixed highlighting the possibility that, like humans, our canine friends have their own individual music preferences,” University of Glasgow professor Neil Evans shared. “That being said, reggae music and soft rock showed the highest positive changes in behavior.”
